SACRAMENTO-
The City of Sacramento is discussing a new span across the Sacramento River that would replace the I Street bridge for pedestrians and drivers.
A contract with consultants was approved by the City Council Tuesday night, and $2 million in grant money will go toward figuring out a plan for the new bridge.
The new span would be just north of the I Street bridge. The original I Street bridge would remain open for trains.
City Engineer Jesse Gothan said Tuesday the new bridge would be able to accommodate buses, as lanes on the existing bridge are too narrow.
