A sweet addition to the We Tv spring lineup is new reality series Mary Mary, which follows the lives of the Grammy-winning gospel-singing duo of sisters Erica and Tina Campbell as they navigate career, children and life’s many hurdles.
The show premiered on Thursday, March 29 and offered a fascinating picture of a different kind of family business — Erica’s husband Warryn is the group’s producer, and Tina’s husband Teddy is the drummer in Jay Leno’s Tonight Show band. Throw in seven kids and an opinionated, you might even say overbearing manager and you have the makings for some highly entertaining television, not to mention educational when it comes to the ways of show business.

In the midst of promoting their sixth album, Something Big, these ladies truly are super women in addition to being stunning singers, selling more than 5 million albums while constantly transitioning from “mommy mommy-ing to Mary Mary-ing.” In fact, both sisters find themselves pregnant during the season, resulting in concert cancellations, stress and tension for two — or four.
You could say gospel is going mainstream, not just because the We Tv network saw the Campbells as worthy subjects of a reality series, but partly as a result of another church family who has made headlines: that of Whitney Houston. Her death and subsequent funeral, featuring performances by CeCe Winans, Alicia Keys, Kim Burrell and R. Kelly, introduced a world audience to classic gospel songs, among them: “Jesus Loves Me.”

Many of Mary Mary’s classics will also be seen and heard in new light next month when the duo release an album of hits that have been remixed and re-mastered. Listen to the single, “Go Get It,” and check out a preview of the show below and tune in on Thursdays beginning April 5 to watch Mary Mary at its regular time slot of 9 p.m.
