Two more have been added to the cast of Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger‘s untitled rock ‘n’ roll drama. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that both Max Casella and Jack Quaid have joined the pilot.
From executive producers Scorsese, Jagger, George Mastras and Terence Winter, the music-business drama is set in the punk-and-disco heyday of 1970s New York and follows a record executive trying to resurrect his top-tier record label that needs resuscitation.
The duo join the previously announced cast of Bobby Cannavale, Olivia Wilde and Juno Temple.
Casella, perhaps best known for roles on Doogie Hoswer, M.D., The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire, recently appeared in features Inside Llewyn Davis and Spike Lee‘s Old Boy. He’ll play Julian “Julie” Silver, the head of A&R at Richie Finestra’s (Cannavale) American Century Records. The character is described as nurturing — but with an explosive temper. Julie is having a hard time staying hip in the youth-obsessed industry.
Quaid, the son of actress Meg Ryan and actor Dennis Quaid who got his breakout role in The Hunger Games, joins as Clark Morelle. He has the opposite problem as Julie. He’s a A&R exec whose youth is keeping from finding a foothold in his competitive team.
STORY: Bobby Cannavale to Star in HBO’s Jagger-Scorsese-Winter Rock ‘n’ Roll Drama
The comes from Boardwalk Empire‘s Winter and Scorsese, with Scorsese set to direct the pilot. Winter and Mastras are penning the script, and Mastras will serve as showrunner. The project first arrived at the cable network as an idea from The Rolling Stones frontman and was first imagined as a film for Disney and then Paramount. Jagger will exec produce with his Jagged Films partner Victoria Pearman, along with Scorsese’s manager Rick Yorn and Emma Tillinger Koskoff. The drama marks a reunion for Scorsese, Jagger and Pearman, who collaborated on the 2008 documentary Shine a Light.
Production will likely start in early summer 2014.
Casella is repped by Innovative Artists, and Quaid is with UTA and Anonymous.
