SACRAMENTO –

Sacramento State student Kalliah McCartney has been a gymnast since she was six, and she just found out last week she’ll be competing at the 2014 NCAA Women’s Gymnastic Championship in Alabama next week. She is the first Sacramento State gymnast to compete at the national level.

“The moment I found out, I was almost in disbelief. I didn’t believe it at first; I was kind of in shock. I didn’t know what to say,” said McCartney, 21.

She’ll be competing in the all-around competition, which includes the vault, beam, uneven bars and floor events.

McCartney attributes her success to her consistency.

“I personally believe that what makes me a good gymnast is the consistency that I have. I may not have the best high quality skills, but I can hit those routines and I’m confident about those,” said McCartney.
