Sunday’s Girls finale averaged 1 million viewers over the course of the night.
HBO‘s flagship comedy, which concluded its third-season finale on the heels of True Detective and Looking, delivered 670,000 viewers in its premiere telecast at 10 p.m. That’s virtually in line with last year’s sophomore ender, up 6 percent.
Where Girls is even more steady is in its gross viewership. Across originals, encores, HBO Go and On Demand plays, the third season of Girls averaged 4.6 million viewers — the same number the series was averaging at the end of its second year.
The biggest comedy on HBO’s roster at present, the return of Veep and newcomer Silicon Valley will fill its void when they launch a new comedy hour on Sunday, April 6. The duo will no doubt be getting a solid lead-in from the network’s reigning hit, Game of Thrones.
Girls‘ fourth season is already in preproduction, with an early 2015 return expected. Like the third season, Girls‘ next run will also include an upped order of 12 episodes.
