A Sunday afternoon food truck event drew thousands to the Elk Grove Regional Park to enjoy food and benefit a local charitable group.

Organized by two Elk Grove City Council members and three Cosumnes Community Services District directors, the five hour event is said to have drawn over 4,000 people who enjoyed a wide variety of food from 15 vendors.

Aside from being one of the largest regional food truck events, 10 percent of the proceeds from the vendors as well as proceeds from the beer and wine tent are being donated to the Elk Grove Police Activities League. Although the final tally will not be determined for several days, organizers expect to raise several thousand dollars for the league.

"This surpassed everything we anticipated," organizer and Elk Grove City Council member Steve Detrick said. "It is more than just a food event, it is a community event."

Great job Steve and Jim! With 4,000 people on a hot day, even with beer sales alone, you probably raised over $5,000!

WOW! What a great event! We had 3 generations there. My parents are in their 60’s, my wife and I and our 4 & 6 year old. We loved that we all had something to do. We watched the kids/grandkids in the bounce houses, get their faces painted and had special balloons made from each of them. Once we wore some of the energy off the little ones, we sampled 3 of food truck and enjoyed our meal with wine and beer in the patio area with tables and plenty of shade! The DJ played perfect background music from the ‘70s,’80s &’90s while we ate. We could not leave without the shaved ice that we had to wait ½ hour for and it was well worth it! Thank you to everyone that organized the event!
