A few months after a media frenzy sparked by Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson‘s incendiary comments to GQ magazine, his son Willie Robertson recounted the aftermath in a new interview.
“My father, he made Christmas very interesting for us,” said Robertson on CNN. The reality TV personality, however, included a dig at the GQ writer who quoted his father’s remarks about sexuality that would get him temporarily suspended from the A&E show.

“I remember doing that interview and this guy [GQ writer Drew Magary], I think he already had what he wanted to put, and he was certainly asking specifically this and that, and Phil just said what he thought — what was on his heart,” Robertson said. “He didn’t say it quite … you know, he did some paraphrasing there.”
After the GQ article was published, Phil Robertson was placed on “indefinite hiatus” from the show by A&E Network on Dec. 18. On Dec. 24, the network issued a statement welcoming back the reality patriarch to the series.
Willie Robertson was appearing on CNN to promote a new religious-themed film, God’s Not Dead, that he appeared in. The film revolves around a debate between a college student and his atheist professor over God’s existence.
The season-five finale of Duck Dynasty, which hit a 16-month low in ratings earlier this month, airs on Wednesday.
