SACRAMENTO-

California Highway Patrol said a woman and a child were killed Thursday afternoon on westbound Interstate-80 near Madison Avenue.

Another child, a young girl, was taken to the hospital.

Highway Patrol says the woman was driving erratically from Placer County in a red Nissan Pathfinder, at speeds of around 80 to 100 miles per hour. Investigators say the woman was being followed by several vehicles.

The woman had been reported to 911 several times before the crash. The CHP says at least one person that reported the woman’s driving was an off-duty officer.

Three lanes were closed because of the crash, heavily impacting traffic in the area. The lanes reopened at 5 p.m.
