[WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Sunday’s episode of Game of Thrones, “Two Swords”]
Tyrion, Jon and Arya are back on Game of Thrones. We all know who those guys are, but what about the supporting characters who popped up on Sunday’s premiere?
We’ve got you covered.
PHOTOS: ‘Game of Thrones’: 20 Best Quotes
1. Who was the man Arya killed?
Arya (Maisie Williams) continued her streak of dishing out revenge. After stopping at a tavern with The Hound (Rory McCann), she recognizes Polliver (Andy Kellegher), one of the the Lannister soldiers, as the man who murdered her friend Lommy and stole her sword, Needle.
This all happened back in season two when Arya was traveling the King’s Road along with recruits for the Night’s Watch. Among them: Lommy, Hot Pie and Gendry. Lannister men were on the hunt for Gendry, as he was one of King Robert’s bastards. When a group of Lannister men attacked one night, Lommy was injured and Arya’s gang was captured. When Arya appealed to Polliver that Lommy needed help if they were to march on, Polliver responded by killing the boy with Needle. Arya repaid the deed in the season-four premiere, repeating Polliver’s words back to him
2. Where’d Tywin get the Valyrian steel for the weapons from the opening scene?
It’s implied that Tywin melted down the Starks’ accessorial sword Ice to create two weapons – one of which Jaime received in Sunday’s premiere. Tywin doesn’t say this outright, but instead states meaningfully that a rare Valyrian steel weapon suddenly became available.

3. What about that creepy cannibal from north of the Wall?
The premiere doesn’t reveal much about Styr (Joseph Gatt). What we do know about the bald, menacing newcomer is that he’s part of a Wildling band and he likes eating people. In the novels, he’s among Mance Rayder’s lieutenants.
4. What’s the deal with Oberyn Martell?
Prince Oberyn of Dorne is ostensibly in King’s Landing for Joffrey’s wedding – but he clearly has the ulterior motive of avenging his sister’s rape and death at the hands of The Mountain, one of Tywin’s men.
Elia Martell was married to Rhaegar Targaryen, son of the Mad King, and was killed along with her children during King Robert’s rebellion. This all happened under Tywin’s watch, so Oberyn hates the Lannisters and blames them for the death of his family members. On a side note, Tywin’s own granddaughter Myrcella is currently living in Dorne, waiting to be married to Oberyn’s nephew, which would strengthen the Lannisters’ alliance with Dorne. Actor Pedro Pascal goes into more detail about his character’s motivations during a chat with THR, which can be read here.
