After just three years, Namco Bandai has announced the closure of ShiftyLook, the division created to revive dormant video game brands as webcomics, animated projects and other cross-media merchandise.
In a statement released by ShiftyLook today, the company pointed to its successful revival of Wonder Momo, Bravoman and other properties, before adding that “now that we have successfully revived so many franchises, the heavy lifting is completed — and so is our work. We battled the video games abyss and won, which means it’s time for us to move on and let the hit-makers play with some new toys.”

While the Wonder Momo video game from WayForward Technologies is still on schedule to be released as planned, the existing Bravoman app and Namco High games are scheduled to be discontinued later this year.
The ShiftyLook.com servers will be shut down on Sept. 30, but the comic material created for the site will be released by UDON Entertainment. According to Matt Moylan, managing editor for UDON, “if we sell enough [of the collected editions], maybe we can convince Bandai to let us create all-new material for them once again.”
