MANTECA–

A community mourns the loss of 14-year-old Zach Gomez, one of four teens hit by what CHP calls a distracted driver. The other three teens survived, while Gomez did not.

The Manteca High School freshman was walking with his friends from a bonfire early Saturday morning along Yosemite Avenue in Manteca, when CHP says a 19-year-old woman reached for her phone before swerving and hitting the teens.

“No call is worth someone’s life,” Zach’s best friend Manny Moreno, 15, told FOX40. “I consider myself a little person but Zach was one of the only people who never saw me that way.”

The woman was taken into custody and charged with vehicular manslaughter. The other teenagers are being treated a nearby hospitals, according to CHP.
