Cable saw a slew of premieres on Tuesday night — the biggest of which was Deadliest Catch.
Discovery’s veteran docuseries, opening its 10th run, saw its largest premiere in three seasons with 3.8 million viewers. It narrowly edged by TNT’s coverage of the NBA playoffs to stand as cable’s most-watched program of the night.
In the adults 18-49 demo, the 9 p.m. premiere averaged a 1.5 rating. Pre-show The Bait was also strong, earning 2.2 million viewers and a record 1.3 rating in the older adults 25-54 demo.
At 10 p.m., Lifetime launched its new Tori Spelling vehicle, True Tori. The series, which depicts a relatively real-time account of Spelling and husband Dean McDermott trying to fix their marriage, opened to 1.2 million viewers; 615,000 of that total were adults 18-49 and 625,000 were 25-54.
MTV had a scripted debut with Faking It. The half-hour comedy didn’t make any huge waves at 10:30 but did retain a very impressive portion of its Awkward lead-in. The premiere took in 1.17 million viewers, losing just 7 percent of Awkward‘s audience.
The freshman fared nearly as well as Awkward in MTV’s 12-34 demographic, retaining nearly 90 percent with a 1.2 rating.
USA closed out the first season of reality series Chrisley Knows Best with series highs — 1.5 million viewers during its first showing and a 0.7 rating among adults 18-49.
Also, the second episode of Fargo pulled in 2.04 million viewers during its 10 p.m. telecast — off about 600,000 from last week’s debut. The series posted promising time-shifting in live-plus-3 ratings, rising 68 percent to 4.46 million viewers.
