- an official letter of assignment from the Editor-in-Chief (or the News Editor for radio/TV). One letter per crew/editorial team will suffice. Editors-in-Chief and Bureau Chiefs should submit a letter from their Director;
plus, any one of the following documents:
- copies of recent (within the last 4 months) bylined articles;
- a recent copy of the page of the publication which provides the names of regular editorial staff and contributors and which lists the journalist seeking accreditation;
- a photocopy of their national/international press card valid through to the end of the event.
We reserve the right to request supplementary documentary evidence which may include recent recordings of broadcast reports or photos, as appropriate, where the journalist is credited.
Analysts are requested to complete the entire form and return it with:
- an official letter of assignment from the Managing Director of the analyst house;
plus, any one of the following documents:
- a recent copy of the page of the publication by the analyst house which provides the names of the analyst team and which lists the industry analyst seeking accreditation;
- copies of recently (within the last 6 months) published reports or articles where the industry analyst is credited.
Eligibility
Media accreditation may be granted only to the editorial staff of publications/news wire services, press photographers and TV/radio crews representing a recognized media organization that is:
- print publications - available to the general public and which generally carries paid advertising. Print publications should be published at least 6 times a year by an organization whose principle business activity is publishing;
- news wire services - providing news coverage to subscribers, including newspapers, periodicals and/or television networks;
- broadcast - broadcasting news and information programmes to the general public. Independent film and video production companies can only be accredited if officially mandated by a broadcast station via a letter of assignment;
- online media - generating at least once a week a substantial amount of original news content or analysis that extends beyond personal diaries, forums and external links. The site should be registered to a media organization with a verifiable non-web address and telephone number.
Bloggers may be granted accreditation if blog content is deemed relevant to the industry, contains news commentary, is regularly updated and made publicly available. Corporate blogs are not eligible for accreditation.
Analysts may be eligible for accreditation providing they:
- follow the telecommunications/ICT market;
- are currently employed as an industry analyst by an internationally recognized analyst house;
- report in one of the publications issued by the analyst house. Reports must be generally available to the public. Analysts working on reports that are circulated internally or to a select group of clients, are not eligible for ITU accreditation.
Technical staff not part of a broadcast crew, all other non-editorial staff working for a publishing house (i.e. management, marketing and advertising executives, etc.), researchers, authors and editors of directories cannot be granted media/analyst credentials. Accreditation can also not be accorded to the information outlets of NGOs.
Process
ITU must be satisfied that anyone applying for accreditation is a professional journalist or analyst with a proven track record of reporting for bona fide media. Applications for accreditation are considered on a case-by-case basis and the decisions of the ITU Media Relations Service are final. Applicants will be notified when their documents have been accepted.
To collect your badge, a valid passport or form of photo ID must be presented.
