With the imminent closure of the Campbell’s Soup plant, and other companies leaving, Sacramento City leaders are looking for ways to bring new businesses to the city.

SACRAMENTO–

Sacramento City Officials are admitting the ideas are not new, but the urgency is.

Speaking at a press conference Tuesday morning, council member Jay Schenirer introduced a rough draft of  a plan to bring in new businesses to the city.

“We asked for a list of all the things that make the city a bad place for business,” said Schenirer, adding that the list was pages long.

The goal of the plan is too focus on what the city can offer that other cities can’t, to draw in potential employers.

The six page draft includes a few pages regarding a review of the the city’s regulatory environment, meaning a closer look at zoning code and other aspects that officials say have only gotten more bogged down with the addition of codes that make it more difficult to understand.

“It’s like painting lay after layer on a house, and then, realizing you need to strip it all off to do it right,” said Sacramento Metro Chamber CEO Roger Niello.

Officials say the draft is very much a preliminary idea of how to move forward, and that a final proposal should be made in a few weeks.
