SACRAMENTO –

A sellout crowd got their money’s worth during the Kings’ home opener last night at Sleep Train Arena as Sacramento beat Golden State in a thriller, 94-92.

FOX40 was hoping to speak with one of the team’s owners about the Kings’ future in Sacramento.  Gavin and Phil Maloof sat courtside.  A Kings media representative sat right behind them.  When we approached and asked for a pre-game interview, the media rep politely told us there would be no interview opportunity.

Mayor Johnson was in attendance.  As he walked to his seat, we asked him if he had any opening night thoughts to share.

“I’m excited, man,” Johnson said.  ” Home opener.  We’re ready.  We need a win.”

“Are you going to talk to the Maloofs tonight?” FOX40 asked.  The mayor continued walking into the crowd without answering.  He did stop by the Maloof brothers’ seats, exchanging handshakes and what appeared to be friendly words.

Fans had plenty to say about the future.  There is clearly still a tremendous amount of love and enthusiasm for this team in Sacramento.

One passionate fan summed up the thoughts of many when he said, “If we just stay pushing it together as a community and as a family, hopefully the NBA or the Maloofs will see something that inspires them to get an arena deal done, because this is like family.”

Some sheets of soft black material fell from the scoreboard onto the court during the game.  The sheets had been taped to the scoreboard to cover some outdated advertisements.  This prompted some fans to begin chanting for a new arena.
