An apartment fire left four families looking for a place to stay Thursday evening in Sacramento.

Fire investigators believe the blaze started as a cooking fire late in the afternoon. The fire spread from the first floor to the second floor of the 3700 Merrily Way building.

One woman told FOX40 that she had to drop her daughter from a second-story window to good Smaritans on the ground below.

A handicapped man was also rescued by a neighbor who used his garage ladder to climb to his window and pull him out.

No one was hurt in the fire, but four apartments were gutted. Investigators do not yet have an estimate of how much damage was done, monetarily.
