Davis Beats EG Mayoral Opponents in Third Quarter Money Race

With a range of total cash contributions ranging from $10 to over $22,000, most Elk Grove mayoral candidates have reported their fund raising activities and expenditures for the third quarter.

Leading the six person pack in the all important money race was Elk Grove City Council Member Gary Davis who secured $22,169 in cash contributions for the period between July 1 and September 30.

Coming in second place was Davis' city council colleague Sophia Scherman, who raised $3,949 and made her campaign a person loan of $6,000. Scherman also listed her rent for her campaign offices as a non-monetary donation valued at $13,000.

Jerry Braxmeyer reported cash donations of $1,444 for the period while Greg Higley received $10 in cash donations. As of this afternoon LaWanna Montgoemery's reports were not posted on the city clerk's web page and the sixth candidate, Lynn Wheat, is not required to file as she has agreed not to accept donations and has limited her spending to less then $1,000.

Notable Donations

During the period largest out-of-state donation made was from the NuStar PAC in San Antonio, Texas. The PAC for energy company Nustar made a $1,000 donation to Davis.

Although Nustar PAC gives money to candidates in both major parties, according to an analysis of their FEC filings, as of the September 30, they donated $18,000 and $49,500 to Congressional Democrats and Republicans respectively and $3,500 and $28,000 to Senate Democrats and Republicans respectively.

As for major donations, Nustar made the following:

Republican Party Of Louisiana - $55,001
Texas Conservative Fund - $50,000
National Republican Senatorial Cmte - $30,000
National Republican Congressional Cmte - $25,000
Romney Victory - $25,00

Nustar PAC also made a $5,000 donation to the presidential campaign of Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
