HILMAR–

A home invasion robbery in Hilmar targeted a couple’s supposed marijuana stash, according to the Merced County Sheriff’s Department.

Around 7 p.m. Monday, a 70-year-old man was outside of his home near Bloss and Columbus avenues when a white sedan pulled up. A man dressed up like a police officer then got out of the car to talk to the man, telling him that he was there to confiscate drugs.

The man then told the police impersonator that his marijuana was already confiscated by the narcotics task force a few weeks ago. The suspect didn’t believe him and apparently pulled out a handgun to force the man inside of his home.

Inside, the man was tied up. His wife, also 70-years-old, was forced to lie next to him by other suspects who soon entered.

The suspects continued to demand drugs, but the couple insisted that they didn’t have any. Eventually, the suspects settled on taking the couple’s truck, some money and some personal items.

Sheriff’s note that the stolen truck is a white 2000 Toyota Tacoma, with the license plate 7H64575. The victims were said to be unharmed during the robbery.
