Mohamad Salihuddin is new CEO of AmMetLife Takaful

    PETALING JAYA: AmMetLife Takaful Bhd, previously known as AmFamily Takaful Bhd, has appointed Mohamad Salihuddin Ahmad (pix), former head at Great Eastern Takaful Sdn Bhd (GETSB), as its new CEO.
    Mohamad Salihuddin will replace Wan Zamri Wan Zain who will step down as the company's top executive on May 15.
    "Mohamad Salihuddin first day in office as the new CEO of AmMetLife Takaful is on May 11. To allow a smooth change of leadership, AmMetlife has given a five-day transition period for Wan Zamri to hand over his duties to Mohamad Salihuddin" the source told SunBiz.
    Wan Zamri has held the post as AmMetLife Takaful CEO since May 2011.
    SunBiz learnt that AmMetLife Takaful had received approval from Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) on Mohamad Salihuddin's appointment.
    Mohamad Salihuddin resigned from GETSB, the company he helped to set up, in Sept 2012.
    He has some 24 years of experience in the insurance industry covering both retail and corporate businesses, and marketing and operations of various distribution channels covering agency, bancaassurance, branch and corporate intermediaries.
    He was the executive vice-president of Marketing & Sales Support Division for Mayban Fortis Holdings Bhd until December 2005 before he was promoted as the CEO of Malaysia National Insurance Bhd (MNI).
    He later decided to take up the challenge to spearhead the new takaful setup, Prudential BSN Takaful Berhad (PruBSN) in June 2006.
    In Sept 2009, Mohamad Salihudin left PruBSN to join GETSB. Under his leadership, GETSB managed to secure one the four takaful licenses issued by BNM on Sept 1, 2010 and was the first to launch on Dec 10, 2010.
    It was learnt that Mohamad Salihuddin resigned from his position as CEO of GETSB in response to structural changes instituted by the Great Eastern group.
    AmMetLife Takaful is a strategic partnership that was completed on on April 30, 2014 between AMMB Holdings Bhd (AmBank Group) and MetLife International Holdings, Inc (MetLife).
    The AmBank Group owns 50% plus one share in AmFamily Takaful Bhd with the remaining shares owned by MetLife.
    AmBank Group sold its life insurance and family takaful arm in a deal worth RM812 million to Metlife.
