As news broke Friday of legendary soul singer Bobby Womack‘s death at the age of 70, the music world paid tribute on social media.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer — who was signed to SAR Records by Sam Cooke at an early age and went on to write hits covered by the Rolling Stones and many others, becoming one of music’s greatest soul talents — was remembered by friends, peers and fans alike. The social outpouring of tributes online is proof to Womack’s influence across genres and generations.

Among those to offer their condolences on social media were Q-Tip, The Red Hot Chili Pepper’s Flea, El-P, A-Trak, DJ Premiere, Arsenio Hall, MC Hammer, Big Boi, CeeLo Green, indie rockers PAPA and many others. Ronald Isley of the Isley Brothers wished his friend farewell: “I am sad to hear of the passing of my long time friend Bobby Womack. He was a special person with a special talent. I will truly miss him.”
