Taylor Schilling, Laura Prepon, Jason Biggs and Uzo Aduba stopped by Today to chat about the second season of Orange Is the New Black.
“I don’t want people to fail or not fulfill their potential scholastically because of our show!” Schilling said of the weekend’s binge-watchers, while Biggs jokingly disagreed: “I really don’t care about people’s education, as long as they are watching our show — or any show on Netflix, obviously, but mostly our show.”

Of first hearing about the show, Prepon noted, “After you read the pilot, it’s so good — I think I speak for all of us when I say you knew it was something special and you had to be part of [it], you had to take that leap.”
Aduba, who initially auditioned for another part in the series, said of being cast as Crazy Eyes, “What in my audition would have ever made anyone say [that]?” she laughed. “I was only supposed to do two episodes, and then maybe a third. I remember walking back with one of our producers…and she said, ‘We’re going to use you more.’ And I’m like, ‘Amazing! I’m going to get to do that third episode!’ ”
Biggs, as Schilling’s onscreen fiance, is somewhat of a villain on the show because of what his character does outside of Litchfield. “The women are so incredibly sympathetic — these ladies are so incredible, and Taylor does such an amazing job, and people really root for Piper,” he said. “And so when Larry does these things — makes these decisions that are somewhat questionable, even though I personally see them as him trying to take care of himself given the circumstances — people are not thrilled with him, so he’s kind of a polarizing guy.”
A more lovable villain, Prepon’s Alex, will appear in every episode of season three, in comparison to only four episodes of season two. “I’m really excited, ’cause I missed everybody so much during season two,” Prepon said.
