In advance of Gotham’s debut on television this fall, DC Entertainment is doubling down on the grim metropolis with the announcement of two new Batman spinoff comic books offering alternate takes on the concepts central to the television show.
Both Gotham Academy and Arkham Manor take place inside of the core Batman comic-book continuity, with each series making one change to the traditional mythos that take it closer to the alternate Gotham world: Academy features the city’s “most prestigious prep school” — one with a particularly well-known benefactor in Bruce Wayne — while Arkham Manor takes Wayne’s family home and gives it a fairly dramatic makeover as the new Arkham Asylum.

Both series are scheduled to begin in October, and boast impressive creative teams: Gotham Academy will be written by Becky Cloonan and Brendan Fletcher with art by Karl Kerschl, while Arkham Manor is by Deadpool co-writer Gerry Duggan and Shawn Crystal.
Gotham, which focuses on a pre-Batman Gotham City with a teenage Bruce Wayne as one of the leads, premieres this fall on Fox.
