STOCKTON–

“He answered the door, and boom,” says Leo Diaz, a family member of Arturo Aguayo, who was shot and killed in the doorway of his home Saturday.

“I just heard something like a firecracker” says a neighbor.

But that something was a bullet to the chest.

The 36-year-old tattoo artist leaves behind eight children. His wife, Precilla, told FOX40 that a man rang the doorbell of their home off of Santa Ines Court and asked to use the phone around 11 p.m. Saturday. When Arturo said no, she says the man shot him.

The family says this might have been random. But, Officer Joe Silva with the Stockton police department told FOX40 that they’re not ruling out that this could be gang related.

“It’s scary to me, I have nine kids,” says a neighbor.

Aguayo’s death is Stockton’s 51st homicide of this year.

“Citizens are scared, we are scared,” says Diaz.

Police do not have any suspects yet. If you have any information, contact the Stockton Police Department.
