SACRAMENTO–

Loaves and Fishes is working to re-make their reputation and that of the homeless in North Sacramento, one bucket of trash at a time.

After years of complaints from neighbors near the Loaves and Fishes compound on North C Street, Mike Munts and his crew of volunteers are cleaning up the mess along city streets and the American River Parkway — cleaning up social ills and rap sheets in one fell swoop.

“I’ve got people ordered by the court to do community service for minor infractions — jaywalking, light rail tickets and it’s a way to give back to the community,” Munts told FOX40.

For some neighbors mending fences with buckets and trash graspers is going to take time.

“They get the idea that we don’t care about them being human or whatever, but the fact us is — they don’t care about us, they just do whatever they want,” neighbor Joseph Taylor told FOX40.

But, it’s time the Loaves and Fishes volunteers are willing to take.

“I like working here and helping the community out,” said Terrance Flornoy.
