With the Elk Grove City Council meeting tonight to consider the appointment of a new member, one of the more prominent city council candidates is making a last minute push on social media to goose-up attendance of her supporters.

Elk Grove Planning Commissioner and city council candidate Nancy Chaires has established a Facebook campaign page inviting people to show up at tonight's meeting urging the council to appoint her to the vacancy created when Gary Davis vacated the District Four seat upon his election as mayor. Dubbed "I'm with Nancy," the Facebook page has 42 people confirmed who will attend the meeting on Chaires' behalf.

Among those confirmed to attend are Elk Grove Unified School District Trustee Steve Ly and Assembly Member Roger Dickinson. The possible appointment of a replacement council is the only regular agenda item to be considered at tonight's meeting that starts at 6 p.m.

Chaires is competing with five other candidates who are vying for the two year appointment. If a majority of the current four member council cannot agree on any of the candidates before their January 23 meeting, the city will be required to hold a special election.

sickening...
that's it....just sickening that a newly elected school board member seems it is his duty to lobby the council...they are separate bodies and Ly should keep his nose out of this. same for dickinson...his presence will only stir the pot and enrage local citizens....does he not remember we broke away from sacramento politics to run our own city...and then he comes here and babbles his contrite bs....a long, long meeting ahead of us...hopefully the rest of the council (Davis excluded because his handler (dickinson) tells him how to vote) will do the right thing...appointing chaires is not it.

The game is rigged and anyone who doesn't think the Councilmembers already knew who they were choosing before the forum even took place last Saturday night is sadly naive. It doesn't matter how many people fill the seats tonight, the game is rigged.

And of course we're all naive enough to believe that none of the other applicants are urging their supporters to attend and speak on their behalf. SMH

So, as you enter the council chambers will you be asked, "Are you with the Elk Grove Chamber of Commerce or the I'm with Nancy contingency?"

Bring on the special election!

Come on, do really think that it will be anyone but Chaires? If it does go on, which it won't, it will signal a very weak start for Davis and will be a bad sign for the machine and we know they don't want that to happen.

This thing ends tonight. Do you think Dickinson is showing up for anything but her swearing in? Get real people.

Regardless, everyone has a vote and one of them is to have a special elex $$$. I listen to all presentations and I see go Ms. Chaires's experience will make a difference. So, yes I'm with Nancy! Let's not waste more time and tax payer's money.

Didn't see Dickinson there. Maybe he got the message and stayed home.

Not a good start for Mayor Davis. He lacks leadership and it certainly showed tonight. At least Detrick and Hume were agreeable to other candidates...it's called being flexible. But not Davis. I understand Cooper appointed her, so he has skin in that game, but Davis cannot lead a horse to water. What a sad, sad mayor we have.

That's not flexibity, that is being wishy washy and not standing by your convictions!

And least Davis and Cooper didn't flip on a dime and throw their choice under the bus!

Oscar who?

There are so many puppet strings being pulled around here, it's beginning to look like a tug of war in a mud hole.

I saw a willingness to work to solve the problem; not beign wishy washy. Detrick and Hume where showing leadership by trying to solve a problem Davis created. You can call that wishy washy, I call Davis and Cooper hard headed fools for being so willing to call a special election. So, i guess name calling is what we've come to.

On another subject, what about this "Pasadena" plan. It sounded interesting enough to vet a little more but apparently Davis felt he would lose his power if this alternative were tried. His agrument that Yuba city tied 5 or 6 times before they got a consensus does not seem reason enough not to try it. Apparetnly they did finally get a consensus and saved their taxpayers a ton of money. Why isn't Davis willing to try other means? This just confounds me. It is clear it is his way or the highway. This kind of bullying will wane on this council in short order. Even Cooper will abandon ship with that attitude. Wake up DAVIS.

Nancy doesn't need to bother with Facebook...she already has Davis and Cooper in her back pocket...get real people....it is all a self serving game!!! Let's just add another person to the city council who will only think of themselves and play the game!!! So disappointing!!!!

I just wanted to say, "I'm Not With Nancy!"

I Second that! Someone needs to start a facebook page entitled: NO, Not Nancy

Ok, that was embarrassing. Our own newly elected school board members while trying to endorse a candidate for citry council exposed Elk Grove for being "Green Acres." Mr. Haney (Perez) looked like he was drunk or on speed. He was incoherent and blabering. Ly was slightly better, but still exposes Elk Grove as a city of stupid people (voters) making stupid decisions as his comments were juvenile.

I guess, what's new.

They certainly didn't help their candidate Chaires. If anything, those stooges will cost her votes if this goes to a special election, which it should have already.

By the way, the pettiness and self-serving attitudes of Davis and especially Cooper reaffirmed their lack of professionalism, respect, and integrity for their positions.

For those watching our council in action for the first time, it looked like we had Fred Ziffel, Hank Kimball, Eb, and Sam Drucker running our city. -Unfortunately, it wasn't a comedy show, it was a disgrace.

With Hank Kimball as Mayor Davis, or is that Mayor Davis as Hank Kimball.

I found the school board members to be insulting. The entire board should review these public comments to determine if such public speaking should met or adhere to a policy of professionalism, rational, and sober. They were very poor representatives of our district. YES, they have a right to a public comment, but they should be respectful, communicative, and intelligent remarks at the very least.
