A cast reunion for “The Princess Bride” at the New York Film Festival? Conceivable.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced a festival screening of the fantasy/comedy during the festival. Its director Rob Reiner, as well as cast members Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Billy Crystal, Carol Kane, Mandy Patinkin and Chris Sarandon are expected to join for a post-screening conversation.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary (and generations of fans), the highly quotable movie will screen from a newly struck 35mm print at Alice Tully Hall on Oct. 2, the same day it will be released on Blu-ray.

With a screenplay by William Goldman adapted from his book of the same name, the movie is framed by a fantasy story that is read to a sick boy (Fred Savage) by his grandfather (Peter Falk). Reviewing it for The Times during its initial release in 1987, Janet Maslin wrote: ” ‘The Princess Bride’ has sweetness and sincerity on its side, and when it comes to fairy tales, those are major assets.”

The 50th edition of the New York Film Festival will run from Sept. 28-Oct. 14.
