In an episode of The Bachelorette that gave new meaning to the words “pretty little liars,” Andi Dorfman forced the guys to take a polygraph test. She also sent one guy home in the middle of their one-on-one date, which — speaking of Pretty Little Liars — seems like something that “A” might do.

The episode began in Venice, Italy, with Andi pulling Nick away for an impromptu one-on-one date, much to the other guys’ chagrin. Andi and Nick participated in all the romantic activities that Venice has to offer, like letting a pigeon land on your head.
Then Nick tried to dig himself out of the hole he got in last week after his spats with the other guys. Andi didn’t like that Nick has made so many enemies, but he admitted to being in the wrong and that he’s falling in love. Andi gave him the date rose, and they slow-danced to live music. For whatever reason, Andi just can’t quit Nick.
In the group date, Andi took the guys to a creepy castle, where they all had to take a lie detector test. The guys answered some personal questions, along with a few questions that were truly strange. (Does anyone really want to know if Dylan washes his hands after using the bathroom?)

Ultimately, Andi tore up the guys’ test results, although she later regretted that decision, particularly given how rattled Josh got about the test. Luckily, Chris saved the day by admitting that he’s her secret admirer, which earned him the date rose. Several of the guys congratulated Chris for getting the rose, which led JJ to say that he’s sick of cheering on the other guys’ successes. Chris criticized JJ for “sour grapes,” which feels like a fair assessment.
Cody was delighted to get the second one-on-one date of the week, although he won’t be feeling quite so giddy by the end. After the two bond in Verona over sob-worthy letters that various lonely hearts have written to Shakespeare’s Juliet, Cody got his own reason to sob. He read Andi a love letter and confessed his desire to progress their relationship. Sadly, Andi saw him more as a friend and let him go. It’s hard to pinpoint one moment where Cody lost his chance with her, but perhaps telling Andi that he wanted to “roll around” with her was not the wisest choice.
At the cocktail party, Nick continued to earn the other guys’ ire by whisking Andi away immediately, despite already having a rose. Even nice-guy Chris labeled it a “jackass move.” Brian wrote Andi a note — so many notes this week! — while Marcus told her that he’s in love with her. Josh tried to patch things up with Andi, to so-so avail. Josh was the guy to beat last week, but he’s definitely slipping.

At the rose ceremony, four guys received roses, joining Nick and Chris: Dylan, Brian, Marcus and Josh. That meant curtains for JJ, who no longer has to pretend to be happy for the other contenders. JJ admitted that he did not expect to get cut and could see Andi becoming his wife.
What did you think of Andi’s cuts? Did Nick deserve a rose? Were you the person who wrote the letter to Juliet that Cody and Andi responded to? Let us know in the comments!
