ORANGEVALE-

A babysitter was backing her SUV down a residential driveway in Rancho Cordova, and she accidentally hit an 18-month-old child.

According to The California Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday. The woman, identified as a 28-year-old from Lincoln, was backing up her 2006 Dodge Durango on Kezar Street just north of Oak Avenue. She ran into a child, wounding the toddler’s face and possibly causing internal injuries.

Before CHP arrived, she had driven away without knowing she was involved in a collision. The child was taken to the hospital. The child’s father called the woman back to the home, where she was contacted by CHP.

Currently, she is not facing any charges, and the collision is still under investigation.
