SACRAMENTO –
This year over 27,000 runners took part in the 19th annual Run to Feed the Hungry.
The run benefits the Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services.
Now if you did some basic math 27,000 runners each paying a $35 entry fee works out to $945,000.
However, the non-profit doesn’t get all that.
It costs a lot to hold a race; to name a few of the costs there are t-shirts, police, port-o-potties, insurance, equipment, bibs, medical, and food.
Last year’s run raised $850,000. Even though they got that much SFBFS is a non-profit meaning it doesn’t get government help and has to raise all of the money for its budget through donations and fundraisers.
All the money that’s raise has to be spread out over the entire year for the more than 20,000 families it helps each month.
Also, SFBFS doesn’t just provide food it offers five other diverse programs like clothing, adult education, parent education, youth education, as well as a senior program.
While the entire race fee does not go to the non-profit, 100% of donations do.
