RUMSEY –
It wouldn’t be much a stretch to mistake one stretch of California Highway 16 for swamp.
Caltrans has gated and locked Highway 16 at its intersection with Highway 20, south to Rumsey. Heavy rains have left the road surface slick with mud, and strewn with rocks. Crews worked Sunday to clear the storm’s debris away, but say it will be Monday at 5pm before that segment of Highway 16 is open to the public again.
The closure is well North of Cache Creek Casino. Still, those wishing to visit the casino from the North will likely need to circumvent the raod blocks, coming up from Esparto instead.
