SACRAMENTO-

The man who allegedly stabbed his girlfriend in the neck, killing her, is still on the run, and now Matt Barnes, a NBA player with local ties, is helping get the word out to help catch him.

Tanganyika Williams was found stabbed in front of a home near Meadowview Road and 24th Street on July 8.

FOX40 spoke with her family, who said they suspected Tanganyika’s new husband, Michael Williams, in the attack. Investigators later confirmed he was a suspect and they are looking for him.

Tuesday morning, Matt Barnes, who currently plays for the Los Angeles Clippers, posted about the search for Williams online. He said Tanganyika was an aunt of his, and he encouraged anyone with information to call police.

Barnes attended Del Campo High in Fair Oaks, and played for the Sacramento Kings for part of the 2004-2005 season.

FOX40 has reported on Michael Williams’ violent past, including a shooting in the 1990s that he served 13 years in prison for.

Tanganyika’s family says the victim told Michael to leave their home a few months ago, and was planning on getting a divorce.
