Claiming that American beauty pagents have a “liberal bias,” and have been “overtaken by the liberal movement and liberal thinking people,” conservative organizers put together the 2012 “Miss Conservative Beauty Pagent,” held July 12th in Dallas.
The results say a lot more about modern day conservatism than the organizers undoubtedly realized. Details below the swirly orange hair gel.
A visit to the pagent’s website (You have to click the "Enter Here" text near the bottom....conservatives are strangely anal when it comes to these kinds of things)
brings you to a home page featuring Toby Keith singing “Courtesy of the Red White and Blue." As he does, a rotating series of pictures of patriotic images, interspersed with photos of women appears. Most of those, it seems, have been lifted from image banks, because few if any match the faces of those who apparently took part in the pagent, and about 20-25% of them are African American.
Elsewhere, the site includes a “gallery” of candids from the event….a gallery consisting of exactly three photos. One of them shows “the contestants”….a total of 7 of them. There appear to have been more based on a site video, but not a whole lot.
But funny thing……in that picture and in fact in all pictures of the contestants, AND if you can manage to endure the four-and-a-half-minute video reel from the pagent, see if you can find ANY African American faces, except for one of the co-hosts…Kevin Jackson.
According to an article about the pagent in National Confidential,
Jackson writes the conservative blog “The Black Sphere” and describes himself as “sworn to set the record straight on the destruction by Democrats to the black community.”
But beyond that, you are going to be watching an unbroken wall of white and almost completely blond women competing for the top prizes. Beyond white and blond, the other prevailing colors are clearly red, white and blue (be sure and check out the golf outfit at about 2:27. Straight out of the Dallas Country Club collection.)
Worse yet, is the producers' choice of music to go with the video: Living in America by James Brown.
What more fitting match of image and music could you find to underscore the conservative vision of America as they wish it could be?
