SACRAMENTO—

If you’re having trouble paying for your utilities, including your water bill, a new program is being offered in order to help offset some costs.

The Utility Rate Assistance Program, announced Wednesday, aims to help eligible households by offering a $6 monthly bill credit.

New rate increases for water and wastewater took effect back in July.

Eligible households need to be at or below the federal poverty level of $23,050 (for a family of four), a single-family residential customer, and have proof that they live where the discount would take effect.
