California State Senate Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg spoke with FOX40 Tuesday afternoon about the latest rumors surrounding the Sacramento Kings’ possible relocation to Seattle.

A report out Monday by NBA writer David Aldridge indicated that the Kings’ owners, the Maloofs, have no interest in selling the team to anyone intent on keeping them in Sacramento.

“If that is their position, and I can’t believe it actually is, but if it is – wholly unreasonable and unacceptable,” Steinberg told FOX40. “If there is a group of local buyers who are willing to pay the fair price and the NBA is willing to back a local ownership group and keep the Kings in Sacramento, then they should stay.”

Earlier in the day, Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson outlined his plan to gather an ownership group to keep the team in town and speak with the NBA Board of Governors.
