RANCHO CORDOVA-

After decades of deals, Penny Saver in Sacramento is done.

“We kind of sensed it with all the online stuff going on,” said employee  Jesse Morales. “It’s finally happened.”

Morales and his co-workers started getting pink slips last week- 60 day notices that their time with Penny Saver is over. Many of them have 10 or 20 years experience printing the frugal fliers.

“Yeah, we’re gonna miss it. What can you do? They made their decision,” Morales said.

By press time, Penny Saver management hadn’t responded to FOX40’s request for an interview.

There will still be a Penny Saver insert in some northern California papers. But they won’t be printed at the Rancho Cordova  plant. The plan is to print them in Southern California and ship them up.

In the Sacramento area, your Penny Saver is delivered mostly by mail. It looks like that won’t change. The only thing that will change is the person printing the thrifty pages.

And as for Jesse Morales, what’s next?

“Hit the job market,” he said.
