Elk Grove Unified Schools to Discuss Budget, Labor Negotiations

The Elk Grove Unified School District board of trustees will hear presentations tonight on next school year's budget and the progress of labor negotiations with district employees.

Like many school district's statewide, the EGUSD was given a new financial lifeline with last November's passage of Proposition 30. That voter approved proposition raised sales taxes and some state income taxes with a large share of the new revenue earmarked for the state's schools.;

With the passage of 30, the district should have smoother labor negotiations its various units. With the district facing constricted budgets over the last several years, labor relations between the district frequently boiled over. Additionally, trustee Steve Ly, one of the three new trustees elected in November, made improvement of labor relations a major part of his platform.

Tonight's meeting will start at 7 p.m. at the district headquarters.
