city of west sacWEST SACRAMENTO –

Four West Sacramento firefighters are in the process of retiring and the city is looking to fill the positions.

Tuesday, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., the city will accept in person or online applications for those looking to handle the heat.

“It’s a dream job, it’s something I’ve wanted to do since I was a child,” said Dustin Close from Elk Grove, who said he heard about the recruitment process Tuesday morning while watching the news.

“I was brushing my teeth and I stopped. I knew I had to come down here,” he said.

Applicants needed to show their EMT and CPAT certifications.

The city set a cap of 800 applicants, but expected to get about 500 people looking to join the fire department.
