The Drunk History team has even more reason to imbibe this Friday. Comedy Central just picked up third seasons of that series and their network neighbor Nathan For You.
Both shows have been back on the air for less than a month, seeing solid ratings growth in their respective sophomore seasons — with Nathan For You rising a handsome 50 percent among adults 18-49.
New time slot partners, airing Tuesday nights, the duo are something of strange bedfellows from the outside. Former Funny or Die web series Drunk History gets inebriated storytellers to recount historic events while A-list actors such as Jack Black and Courteney Cox perform the slightly sloppy reenactments. As for Nathan for You, creator and star Nathan Fielder tries to help entrepreneurs by using unconventional marketing tactics.
“Is there any comedy well deeper to draw from than history and business marketing?” asked network content development and original programming president Kent Alterman, who made the announcement
These orders come on the heels of several other renewals for Comedy Central. Broad City, Kroll Show, Inside Amy Schumer, Review, Trip Tank and Key & Peele all recently scored pickups.
Created by Derek Waters and Jeremy Konner, Drunk History is also executive produced by Gary Sanchez Productions’ Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Chris Henchy and Owen Burke. Michael Koman and Dave Kneebone join Fielder as executive producers of Nathan for You.
It has been a big year for Fielder. The relatively quiet first season was followed by the comedian making headlines when he briefly opened a coffee shop called Dumb Starbucks in Los Angeles. His attempt at legally appropriating the big brand is one of the subjects of the current season.
Both series will return in 2015.
