SACRAMENTO-

Getting the flu is tough, but it’s especially tough when you’ve only been alive for 14 days.

“She’s really fussy she’s been vomiting,” said Kimberly Rowan. The new mother took her two-week old baby to the emergency room at UC Davis Medical Center Monday.

“She won’t even let me put her down,” Rowan said, which is why she’s concerned that her daughter might have the flu.

Yesterday, frustrated parents inside the emergency pediatrics department at UC Davis Medical Center  told us they waited hours for their children to be seen.

The hospital told FOX40 at times, the pediatrics ER department has been at full capacity this week. Although, today, some people were seen in less than an hour Monday. They urged parents to be patient.

“We are in the flu season. People need to remember they must get vaccinated,” Dr. Olivia Kasirye of the Sacramento County Health Department told FOX40.

So far this season, the flu has killed fix people in Sacramento County alone, and that’s why Kasirye is recommending everyone get vaccinated. The Centers for Disease Control say infants as young as two weeks old, like Rowan’s daughter, are too young for the flu shot.

The CDC advises children be at least six month old before getting vaccinated.

To avoid getting sick, the county health department recommends covering your mouth, washing your hands, and staying home from work or school if you are sick.
