Romantic Fiction Author Rusty Blackwood Wonders What The Hell Is Going On With WRF!

What the hell is going on with writers of romantic fiction? Why are they sitting back, mouths closed, fingers inactive when they should be screaming from the top of their keyboards, typewriters, even taking a stand upon a chair in their local libraries — most of all BOOK STORES!? I am a writer of romantic fiction who believes in writing the genre correctly and in the name of what love truly is, but the continued smear on the image of our beautiful genre of romantic fiction continues. By this statement I mean that the well established genre of erotica is now, and incorrectly so, being viewed in the same light as that of romantic fiction and that they are very much one in the same. I cannot stress enough the inaccuracy of this ill judgement! Now, first and foremost, I in no way denounce the genre of erotica, especially if it well written. For many years it has been a well-established and well-received area of literature, but when it is totally ill-conceived, ill-researched, and marketed as simply that of a ‘good old fashioned love story’ it has crossed the line entirely.

Because of the recent success of the likes of 50 Shades of Grey and others written in that same vein, the message that is being sent to the youth of today is not only inept and irresponsible, it is misleading, and damaging. DO WE REALLY WANT OUR CHILDREN READING THIS? If a writer does not know about the topic in which they are writing about then it is up to them to research it until they do, not scratch it down in any old form and market the hell out it simply for the monetary height they hope to achieve with it. The worst part of this sad scenario — and this is not even touching on the rise in personally transmitted disease, abuse, and mental disorders — is that the reading public has bought into this misconception and now believes it to be what it has been mistakenly touted to be. This has hurt the genre of romantic fiction immensely and unless those of us who write beautiful love stories and express love in the way it truly is — not something that demeans and abuses people man or woman — and start taking a stand here this inaccurate, totally fabricated farce is going to continue.

In my most recent Press Release I have spoken out about this misconception and the damage it is bringing to romantic fiction and the writers of such. I have even written to the Romance Writers of America with hope that their attention may be awakened to what is going on. I would like to think they know. I would also like to think they would be doing what they could to clarify the problem as well as rectify it, but I have yet to see anyone climbing atop their soapbox and stating their views. I also requested the president or someone in charge email me or speak with me on my Blog/Journal here at my website. It will be interesting to see if anyone takes me up on my offer.

I would very much like to invite each and every one of you to read my latest Press Release by taking this link: http://ow.ly/B6pwE and I would also like to invite anyone wishing to give their views and or opinions on this topic to do so. Remember, it is only through awareness that change can be brought about.

Get on board! Don’t be afraid to speak your mind!

And as always, support your local authors as well as all your local talent in the Arts!

  1. In the event you write a novel which is entirely different in size to some standard in the genre, then the possibilities of one’s
novel getting successful will all but disappear. If you want to make big sales you must begin by learning from the masters of the art.

For anyone who is a blogger already, you’ll
know that there are many different types, from online diaries, to fashion, to
sports, to spreading awareness, whatever you can think of.

Hi Elisa, thank you for commenting, but I believe you misunderstood the subject in which I am referring to and speaking about. I am not a Blogger per say, but a romance novelist who has a Blog on her website. In this day and age all authors — writers in general for that matter — must keep a Blog, but it is in no way my priority. If you read the content of the post, you would see what I was speaking about and enticing people to not only comment on, but to discuss.
