SACRAMENTO—

Someone’s keen sense of smell apparently alerted them to an intruder burglarizing their home, police say.

Officers showed up at a home near 23rd Street and Hogan Drive a little after 7 p.m. Someone called to report a burglary, telling police that they had come home and noticed that the door wasn’t how he left it.

The resident also reported that something smelled odd.

That smell led the resident to behind the refrigerator – where a man was apparently hiding.

Officers at the scene saw the man trying to run from the area and arrested him.

The man, 37-year-old Cisco Collins, now faces a burglary charge.
