Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, Wordless Music Orchestra Perform U.S. Premiere Paul Thomas Anderson's 'There Will Be Blood' Score at United Palace September 19 & 20

The Wordless Music Orchestra and Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood collaborate for the live U.S. premiere of Paul Thomas Anderson's 2007 film, There Will Be Blood at the United Palace on September 19 and 20.

The event features a full screening and live film score projected onto a 50-foot movie screen at the historic United Palace Theatre.

Ryan McAdams will conduct the evening of music of Jonny Greenwood, Arvo Pärt and Brahms. Performing the score will be more than 50 members of the Wordless Music Orchestra along with Greenwood, who is set to play the ondes martenot part in both performances of his own film score.

Greenwood’s score traces back to his time as composer-in-residence with the BBC Concert Orchestra. Thus, the score inludes a piece of work he created during that time: Popcorn Superhet Receiver.

“I saw some fairly long sections of the film, read the script, and just wrote loads of music," said Greenwood, "I tried to write to the scenery, and the story rather than specific ‘themes’ for characters. It’s not really the kind of narrative that would suit that. It was all about the underlying menace in the film, the greed, and that against the fucked-up, oppressive religious mood—and this kid in the middle of it all.”

This performance comes just short of another collaboration for Greenwood. He will be world premiering his latest work “Water" with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and Richard Tognetti in Dublin on October 2.

Tickets for the event can be purchased here and are limited to four per customer.
