The violent period drama, about a group of Los Angeles Police Department detectives who fight gangsters in the 1940s and 1950s, stars Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. The release of the R-rated film was pushed back from early September 2012 to Jan. 11 in the wake of the Aurora theater shooting. The extra time allowed Warner Bros. to remove a scene of a shoot-out inside a movie theater.
The R-rated movie, opening Jan. 18, stars Mark Wahlberg as a former cop who uncovers a political scandal. Russell Crowe plays the mayor. New Regency produced and financed the film, which will be released by 20th Century Fox.

In an exclusive poster appearing in Entertainment Weekly, both men are featured carring assault rifles. Fox opens the film, which isn't yet rated, on Feb. 13.
The sequel, set for release on March 29, is packs plenty of heat in terms of weaponry, featuring rocket launchers, submachine guns, assualt rifles and machine guns. The ensemble cast includes Bruce Willis, Dwayne Johnson, Channing Tatum and Arnold Vosloo. Paramount will push for a PG-13 rating.
