ABC is looking for a new family comedy.
The network has handed out a put-pilot commitment with a penalty attached for comedy Funhouse from writer Fred Goss, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

From ABC Studios and Mandeville, Funhouse is based on a true story and centers on Jack Babbit, a father of three who kidnaps his estranged father from a nursing home along with his 24-hour male nurse and brings them to his home. That upsets the already chaotic existence between Jack, his wife, three kids and extended family but ultimately works as a catalyst of self-discovery, and what they all mean to each other.
Goss, whose writing credits include Sons & Daughters, The Weekend and directing Brooklyn Nine-Nine, New Girl, Enlisted, Happy Endings and more, will pen the script and executive produce the comedy. Goss, an actor and stand-up comedian, has also performed in more than 75 stage productions and has been a member of the main company at the ACME Comedy Theater in L.A.
Mandeville’s David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman and Laurie Zaks will also executive produce.
Funhouse marks Mandeville’s third network sale this development season. The banner, which has an overall deal with ABC Studios, also has a political thriller from Scandal‘s Jenna Bans and true crime procedural L.A. Crime: Sunset Strip set up at ABC.
Mandeville is repped by UTA; Goss is with UTA, Epiphany Management and Hansen Jacobson.
