Executives from film giants such as Walt Disney Studios and Marvel have written to Pinewood’s local council in south Buckinghamshire, urging approval of the scheme after a previous proposal was rejected, according to the Independent.
STORY: U.K.’s Pinewood Shepperton Submits Revised Expansion Plans
Pinewood, where blockbusters including Skyfall, Pirates of the Caribbean and Snow White and the Huntsman were made, is seeking to double in size after a lack of capacity has forced it to turn away major projects. The £200 million ($307 million) scheme would involve 100,000 sq m of new facilities adjacent to Pinewood’s current site.
The film company, chaired by former ITV chief executive Lord Grade, claims it needs to expand to keep up with a growing demand in the global film-making industry for bigger and more advanced production facilities.
The expansion would secure an additional 3,100 jobs and generate an additional £37 million ($57 million) a year in exports, according to an economic impact study.
According to the Independent, Marvel, 20th Century Fox, Universal and Walt Disney Studios have written to Stephen Kyle, planning officer at the local District Council, calling for the project to be given a green light, ahead of a meeting on Wednesday.
