U.S. Senate Candidate Jim Oberweis To Open Campaign Office on Tuesday in One of the City’s Poorest and Deadliest Neighborhoods

Top GOP contender shows he’s accessible and open to serve all voters

CHICAGO, IL – (SEPTEMBER 29, 2014) -- Jim Oberweis, GOP candidate for the U.S. Senate in Illinois, will host a press conference on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at 11am Central, to announce the opening of a new campaign office in Woodlawn, the heart of Chicago’s South Side, at 6607 S. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr.

The campaign headquarters in Woodlawn, home to some of the city’s poorest residents and one of the city’s most violent neighborhoods, is the first such move by a GOP Congressional candidate in recent history. Oberweis will be joined at the press conference by religious, community, business and civic leaders who support Oberweis and his commitment to bolstering the economy in Chicago’s inner city and making communities safer. Prior to the press conference, there is a ribbon cutting and meet and greet ceremony, which begins at 10a.m. Central.

Also on Tuesday, Oberweis will continue his tour of neighborhoods stricken by high rates of unemployment and home foreclosures, violence and slow business growth despite decades of leadership by Democratic leaders, such as the longtime incumbent he plans to unseat, Dick Durbin.  Oberweis will meet face-to-face with area residents, clergy and leaders.

As a senator, Oberweis, a businessman who has put hundreds of people to work, pledges to support jobs, business infrastructure and safety in Chicago and throughout the state of Illinois.
