SACRAMENTO—

School officials at El Camino Fundamental High School announced that a student was arrested Sunday for making threats on Facebook.

A parent of an El Camino High student called authorities, warning them about an alleged post where a 17-year-old student threatened to commit a shooting Monday morning at the school.

Working with school officials, the poster was identified and deputies soon showed up at his home. Authorities say they didn’t find any means for him to carry out the threats, but the boy was still arrested.

“We take the safety of our students and staff very seriously at El Camino High School. Whether a threat is made as a joke or with serious intent to harm we investigate fully and take all actions possible to ensure safety,” school officials wrote in a release.

The 17-year-old now faces a felony charge of threatening to commit a crime that would result in serious injury.

Officials believe that any possible threats to the school have been neutralized. No specific people are said to have been named in the threats. However, sheriff’s deputies will be on campus Monday as a part of the Safe Schools program.

Concerned parents looking for more information are asked to call the school office at (916) 971-7430.
