NBC 'pressures Ann Curry to snag Angelina Jolie's first interview since her double mastectomy'

NBC executives are reportedly pressuring Ann Curry to land Angelina Jolie's first television interview since the actress underwent a double mastectomy.

Curry has interviewed Jolie many times over her career and the two have reportedly grown a close friendship as a result.

After Curry was fired from the Today Show last year, Jolie made it clear that she wouldn't consent to an interview with anyone at NBC except for Curry, who is now a correspondent for the network.

Now NBC executives want Curry to set up a two-hour primetime special with Jolie, part of which would be aired on Today, according to Radar Online

'Ann would be prominently featured in all of the promotions and publicity if Angelina agreed to do it,' a source told the website.

Jolie stunned the world last Tuesday when she revealed that she underwent surgery to remove both her breasts as a preventative measure against cancer.

She made the decision to get the surgery after learning that the carried the faulty BRCA1 gene that gave her an 87 percent chance of getting the disease, which killed her mother.

Jolie explained her reasoning in an op-ed in the New York Times titled, 'My Medical Choice.'

'My mother fought cancer for almost a decade and died at 56,' Jolie wrote. 'She held out long enough to meet the first of her grandchildren and to hold them in her arms. But my other children will never have the chance to know her and experience how loving and gracious she was.'

Every major network is hoping to land Jolie's first interview since the actress revealed her decision in the Times. And NBC is banking on Curry's close relationship with Jolie as their ticket to snagging the sit-down.

But Radar Online's source said Curry isn't going to 'exploit' her friendship to win the interview.

'Ann has sent flowers to Angelina and reached out to Brad Pitt’s camp because Jolie doesn’t have a publicist,' the source said. 'If and when Angelina is ready to discuss the possibility of doing the interview, she knows how to reach Ann.'
