Former Comedy Central and BBC America executive Bill Hilary has been tapped head of programming at nuvoTV, the English-language cable network targeting Latinos, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Hilary, based in Los Angeles, will oversee all aspects of the network’s programming, including development, production, acquisitions and scheduling. He will report to Michael Schwimmer, CEO of nuvoTV. Hilary’s hiring marks the first senior executive appointment as part of nuvoTV’s expansion plan.
In his position, he will work hand in hand with nuvoTV partner Jennifer Lopez and her production company, Nuyorican Productions, which was announced last fall.
“I’m thrilled to join NUVOtv as the network begins to accelerate its programming investment and growth,” said Hilary. “NUVOtv is ready to take advantage of a truly unprecedented opportunity, with its large and fast-growing target Latino audience, a powerful new partnership with Jennifer Lopez, and the resources to deliver unique entertainment that is both in demand and missing from mainstream networks.”
“At nuvoTV, our goal is to become the premiere Modern Latino entertainment destination. I’m very pleased to be working with Bill as a creative partner who shares our vision to build nuvoTV into the leading network in America for English-speaking Latinos,” said Lopez.
Hilary was COO at World Television Productions International. Prior to that, he was president of Magna Global Entertainment, Interpublic Group. He was CEO of BBC America and executive vp and general manager of Comedy Central, which both saw ratings growth during his time there. While at BBC America, he launched Little Britain, Kitchen Nightmares, Robin Hood and Footballers Wives, among others.
He was behind the sketch comedy show The Dave Chapelle Show and championed Latino comedians at Comedy Central, including programming from Johnny Sanchez, Pablo Francisco and Carlos Mencia.
