LOS ANGELES – May 22, 2013 – With all precincts reporting, the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy/Los Angeles Times City Election Poll was again the most accurate citywide survey, coming within fractions of a percentage point in calling the margin of victory for yesterday's L.A. mayoral election.
The USC Price/LA Times Poll was conducted by Republican polling firm M4 Strategies and Democratic polling firm Benenson Strategy Group on behalf of the USC Price School of Public Policy and the Los Angeles Times.
In the latest USC Price/LA Times Poll, conducted the week before the election, City Councilman Eric Garcetti led City Controller Wendy Greuel by 7 percentage points, with 11 percent undecided. The actual ballot returns show Garcetti won by 7.85 percentage points.
“I would like to congratulate Benenson Strategy Group and M4 Strategies on an outstanding job predicting the outcome of the L.A. mayoral race,” said Dan Schnur, director of the USC Price/LA Times Poll. “We trusted our bipartisan polling team to correctly measure the sentiments of likely Los Angeles voters and they delivered.”
The results reinforce what has been a pattern of accuracy for the USC Price/LA Times Poll throughout the mayoral campaign. A pre-primary USC Price/LA Times Poll conducted in Feb. 2013 showed Garcetti leading Greuel by 2 points with 13 percent of voters undecided; in the actual primary results, Garcetti led Greuel by 4 points.
“I am very thankful for the unwavering support of Dean Jack Knott and our other partners at USC Price,” Schnur said. “We were pleased to provide Los Angeles voters with an accurate account of the L.A. mayoral race and strive to continue educating Los Angeles residents and elected officials about public opinion on the most pressing public policy issues impacting the City of Los Angeles.”
